Souq Score

How listings are ranked on The Souq.

What is the Souq Score?

The Souq Score is a composite number that measures how active, popular, and complete a listing is. It determines ranking in search results, category pages, and the home feed.

What factors affect it?

The Souq Score takes into account a variety of engagement signals, including:

  • Reviews and recommendations from the community
  • Saves and bookmarks
  • Follows
  • Inclusion in community guides
  • Page views and visitor interest
  • RSVPs (for events)

Listings submitted by community members may receive a boost to reward user contributions.

Time decay

Scores decay over time so that recently active listings rank higher than stale ones with the same total engagement. A listing with recent activity will rank higher than one with the same total engagement from weeks ago.

How to improve your score

  • Encourage customers to leave reviews
  • Keep your listing complete (photos, hours, description, halal status)
  • Respond to community feedback
  • Stay active — recent engagement matters more than old engagement
