Reviews & Ratings
How reviews work
Instead of a star rating, The Souq uses a recommendation-based system. When you write a review, you answer: "Would you recommend this?"
- Definitely recommend — you had a great experience
- Not really — the experience didn't meet your expectations
The recommendation percentage shown on a listing is the share of reviewers who said "Definitely recommend."
Context questions
Depending on the category, you'll also be asked a context question to help other visitors:
- Restaurants & food: "What brought you here?" (Dined in, Takeout, Delivery)
- Mosques & prayer spaces: "How do you use this space?" (Daily prayer, Jumu'ah, Community events)
- Shops: "What were you looking for?" (Specific item, Browsing, Service)
- Events: "How did you attend?" (In person, Online, Both)
Photos
You can attach up to 10 photos per review. Each photo can have an optional caption (up to 150 characters) and a category tag like Food, Menu, Interior, Halal Certificate, or Prayer Hall.
Halal clarity
For restaurants and shops, you'll also be asked: "Is the food/products halal?" with options Fully Halal, Partially Halal, or Not Halal. This feeds into the community verification system.
Review limits
- Maximum review length: 1,000 characters
- Maximum photos per review: 10
