Halal Verification

Three verification tiers

The Souq uses a three-tier system to indicate how halal status was determined. Each tier has a different level of trust.

Souq Verified

Highest trust. The listing has certification from an accredited halal body such as ISNA, IFANCA, HFSAA, HMA, MUI, JAKIM, or HFA. This is detected automatically from business data or manually confirmed by our team.

Owner Verified

The business owner has claimed the listing and confirmed the halal status themselves. This is a self-reported claim.

Community Verified

Based on community feedback. When enough reviewers answer the halal clarity question and reach consensus, the community verification is applied. This never overrides a higher-tier verification.

Halal levels

Within each tier, a listing can be marked as one of two levels:

  • Fully Halal — the entire menu or product line is halal (e.g. zabiha/hand-slaughtered, certified, no alcohol served)
  • Partially Halal — halal options are available alongside non-halal items

How you can help

When you leave a review for a restaurant or shop, you'll be asked: "Is the food/products halal?" Your answer contributes to the community consensus. The more people answer, the more accurate the verification becomes.

Reporting incorrect halal status

If you believe a listing's halal status is incorrect, you can flag it using the report button on the listing page. Select "Incorrect information" and choose "Halal Status" as the affected field. Our team will review it.
